My favourite things… NOLA style
One of the real bonuses in having home and family scattered everywheres is that I can look forward to things in every destination. This is one of the things I’m looking forward to when I get back to NOLA. I’d like you to meet the Muffuletta.
A traditional style muffuletta sandwich consists of a muffuletta loaf split horizontally and covered with layers of marinated olive salad, capicola, salami, pepperoni, ham,Swiss cheese and provolone. The sandwich is sometimes heated to soften the provolone. Quarter, half, and full-sized muffulettas are sold.
The signature olive salad consists of olives diced with the celery, cauliflower andcarrot found in a jar of giardiniera, seasoned wih oregano and garlic, covered in olive oil, and allowed to combine for at least 24 hours.
On a rainy gray ‘summer’ day in London, I look forward not only to eating one of these babies, but to the company I shall be in when I do.
